ABOUT OUR BAMBOO COLLECTION

At Tine K Home bamboo is more than just an aesthetical choice of material. It’s a philosophy of thought. We love bamboo so much, that even after 15 years of designing bamboo furniture, we barely feel like we’ve started, and we are certain that we have only scratched the surface of the possibilities, pertaining bamboo as a choice of material. One of the unique and, to us, important features of bamboo, is how everything is visible on the surface, of every straw. Natural scratches and scrapes tell the unique stories of every piece of bamboo straw – and not two are identical.

ABOUT OUR BAMBOO

And the process behind the production

Bamboo is sustainably produced and grown. As it is the fastest growing plant in the world it reproduces big amount of CO2 and when cut it regrows quickly. In that way bamboo is a great alternative to the slower growing and resource-demanding hard wood. Additionally, bamboo does not require any type of pesticides, fertilizers or herbicides to grow and reproduce effectively.   In short bamboo has amazing natural capabilities of multiplication. It is not a scared resource and it is able to survive and multiply seamlessly. The bamboo poles we select for our production need from 60 days only to 4 years to fully grow.

Our bamboo is processed as little and as natural, as possible. We do not use any harmful chemicals to artificially prolong longevity of our bamboo. The bamboo selected for Tine K Home production is brought to our workshops directly from local fields.

First the bamboo is boiled to kill possible insects inside the bamboo. Boiling the bamboo also helps hardening the straws as natural salt is added to the boiling process. The salt help rinsing the bamboo and sterilizing it in the process. Boiling also extracts excessive moist and liquids – which is essential for hardening bamboo. Then after boiling the bamboo is dried in the sun. Drying time may vary depending on the weather conditions in Vietnam. The dry bamboo is hand-crafted in family owned workshops. Workshops we have worked with for many years. Finally, each bamboo furniture is treated with a gentle water-based natural exterior wood oil.

We recommend that you maintain your furniture with a similar oil 1 to 2 times a year. To ensure your experience with your Tine K Home bamboo furniture we provide a complementary water-proof cover. Use it to cover up your cushions and furniture for the night, for the rain and for the winter season.

CARING FOR YOUR BAMBOO

Bamboo, like any other natural material, requires care to stay beautiful and last. Here are a few tips to ensure longevity of your new furniture piece:

  1. We include a complementary cover. Use it...
  2. Even though your bamboo piece is treated with Woca® water-based natural exterior wood oil, mold may occur due to local weather conditions and it may be necessary to pressure flush your furniture. This is the far easiest procedure. Alternatively, hand wash with a mild detergent and a sponge.
  3. Wipe off spill immediately, to reduce the risk of marks. Any mild detergent may be used.
  4. After the cleaning process and when the furniture is all dry we recommend that you reapply Woca ® water-based natural exterior wood oil.
  5. Please store your bamboo furniture in a dry and ventilated spot for the winter season.
